Well we are coming up on the NHL All-Star Break next weekend. The players have been selected but in a different twist there will be a fantasy draft to pick rosters.
Instead of doing East vs. West or North America vs. The World Two captains will be selected & they will select who they want to play on their team.
That means we could Crosby vs. Malkin or The Sedin twins on different teams for the All-Star Game.
The one question is who will the captains be. On the surface you would think it would be Crosby & Ovechkin but I'm not convinced that will be the case. You don't need Crosby & Ovechkin to sell the All Star game. A guy like Nick Lidstrom, who is the closest thing this generation has seen to Bobby Orr would make a great choice as a captain.
Jonathan Toews is a young player who looks like the next great captain in the NHL. He would also be a popular choice. If Crosby is still out with a concussion then that is a whole new conversation.
One thing is for sure, the curiosity of this is going to open up a lot of debate about the All-Star game among hockey fans and that is good for the league.
